DOC Sciacca: we’re the only ones to carry out this denomination. But why is it so important in the first place?

DOC Sciacca: we’re the only ones to carry out this denomination. But why is it so important in the first place?

I’ll let you in on a secret: the most important piece of news from 2020 harvest is the acquisition of DOC Sciacca for us.
Everyone knows it: a wine always reveals its production land. It holds inside every feature of the cultivation soil, the weather, the wind, the proximity to the sea and the minerals contained in that specific area.
And it doesn’t end here. All of these traits are cause and consequence of that specific region’s culture: they are born from a tradition passed on from one generation to the next and are at the same time influenced by local methods and costumes.
Each element taking part in the production process is transformed in, becomes, the wine itself.
You can see how the link between any wine and its cultivation land is a permanent one. It is indeed a fil rouge no one can break.

Our Nero D’Avola

This is why so many wineries want a denomination of controlled origin that can evermore emphasize this long lasting union with the terroir.
Thus, the DOC Sciacca project was born for us. So, a significant amount of paperwork later, we now display with honor the denomination representative of our City.
It’s a symbol that unites us with Sicily, but more specifically with that land that expands from Mt. Kronio to San Marco Beach.
Sciacca is famous for the CarnivalHand-crafted Ceramics and mouth-watering sardines, but is also the birthplace of a wine that embodies the singularities of the place.

It is this same land where the oldest wine of Italy has seen light. In 2010 a reasearch group from University of South Florida found inside Mt. Kronio’s dungeons relics still bearing traces of wine dating back to the IV Millennium b. C.
This exciting discovery has made it possible for historians to piece together our ancestor’s diet during Copper Age and to associate the wine made in Sciacca with a defined and precise identity.

We are ecstatic to say the least to represent our City, because for us it’s an opportunity to build a future literally rooted in the past.
